Colon carcinoma is a malignant disease of the large intestine, which is the lower part of the digestive system. Listed below is the Colon cancer treatment in Israel program. To learn more about the rectal cancer treatment, please click here.

In cases of intestinal carcinoma it is vital to determine the exact location of the tumour and whether it has metastasized. In line with this, the initial stage of the program involves a thorough workup. As colon tumours are usually aggressive the required investigations are performed as quickly as possible. In fact, with our colon cancer treatment in Israel program, the diagnostic stage only takes 5 days. All tests are performed at two of Israel’s top medical facilities – Ichilov and Assuta hospitals in Tel Aviv.

Work-up

The schedule for the work-up is as follows:

  • Day 1: comprehensive blood work-up (including CBC, CMP, coagulation factors, electrolyte levels and tumour markers)
  • and colonoscopy preparation.
  • Day 2: colonoscopy performed by one of the top specialists in the field. A biopsy will be taken during the procedure. The sample will be sent to a pathology lab for expedited study.
  • Day 3: PET-CT scan (to rule out metastases).
  • Day 5 (evening): You will receive the results of all the aforementioned investigations and a colorectal surgeon exam, during which they will determine the optimal course of treatment.

Treatment

If extraintestinal spread is observed on PET/CT (for example, omental or lung mets) the treatment of choice is chemotherapy to combat the metastases. If no extraintestinal spread is seen, or if the tumour has only metastasized into the intestinal lymph nodes, the preferred treatment is an organ-preserving surgical intervention that does not require a colostomy. The exact procedure is determined by the mass’ localization.

The fee for the operation covers:

  • Routine preoperative preparation including an ECG, chest X-ray and an anesthesiologist consultation
  • Operative procedure and 7 days of hospitalization
  • Disposable surgical materials
  • Express biopsy and definitive histopathological study

It is advised you remain in Israel for approximately 10 days following your discharge from the hospital for outpatient follow-up and care.

The surgical procedure will take place at the renowned Assuta Hospital, and will be performed by Dr. Marat Khaikin, who is one of the leading experts in the field in Israel.

Common Symptoms

Please Note

The suggested treatment program (with a specialist recommended by us) will take place at Assuta Medical Center. If you would like, we can instead arrange the treatment at one of Israel’s public hospitals. In such case, the cost of the surgery (not including the logistics package) will be 20 to 30 per cent lower. However, while we can definitely guarantee that the surgery will be performed by one of that hospital’s top experts, the name of the particular expert will be selected based on their rotation schedule.
