Varicose Veins Treatment in Israel

Veins carry blood back to the heart. As blood from the legs has to move upwards, against the force of gravity, the body relies on the foot muscles to push it up. Meanwhile, special valves in the veins prevent it from flowing back down. When varicosis, a condition characterised by veins becoming enlarged or twisted, occurs, the valves' function is disrupted, causing blood to flow back down, which, in turn, enlarges the veins even further. The condition most often affects the lower extremities, however, varicose veins can occur in other parts of the body as well. Listed below is the basic varicose veins treatment in Israel program.

Varicose Veins Treatment

The diagnosis phase will include a lower limbs Doppler ultrasound scan (NIVA) and a vascular surgeon exam. The varicose veins treatment cost will depend on the method of treatment chosen by the surgeon.

Sclerotherapy

This treatment involves the injection of a special chemical called sclerosant into the varicose veins. The chemical damages the vein and causes it to close. Sometimes more than one procedure is needed (sessions are scheduled 7 days apart). In case this is the indicated therapy, the cost will consist of just the price of surgical procedure.

Laser Treatment

The heat from the laser scars the varicose veins causing them to close. In case this is the indicated therapy, the cost will consist of:

  • Operative intervention
  • Disposable surgical materials and equipment

Radiofrequency (RF) ablation

The veins are heated using radiofrequency energy to form scar tissue in the affected veins, thus closing them. In case this is the indicated therapy, the cost will consist of:

  • Operative intervention
  • Disposable surgical materials and equipment

The treatment will take place at NARA Medical Center in Ramat Gan.

The length of your stay in Israel will be determined by the number of treatment sessions required. If satisfactory results are achieved after the first varicose veins treatment ,you will undergo a repeat exam on post-treatment day 7, after which you’ll be able to return home. If a second session is required, you will be required to stay in Israel for 3 extra days.

Causes & Risk Factors

  • Age-related loss of elasticity and decrease in valve function (this results in blood pooling in your veins; this, in turn, causes them to enlarge)
  • Pregnancy (as a result of increased pressure exerted by the uterus on the lower limb veins)
  • Remaining in one position (standing or sitting) for extended periods of time
  • Family history
  • Obesity

Varicose Veins Symptoms

  • Leg aches/feeling of heaviness
  • Lower leg edema
  • Pain getting worse after remaining in one position for an extended period of time
  • Bleeding from varicose veins

Left untreated, varicosis may lead to various complications including ulcers, bleeding and blood clots
