Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. The condition predominantly affects men aged 36-50. Most commonly, it is caused by bacteria from the urinary tract; however in many cases the underlying reasons for its development remain unknown. Risk factors include recent UTIs, HIV or AIDS, prostatic hyperplasia, having a urinary catheter, and having been diagnosed with the condition before.
