MS or multiple sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disease affecting the central nervous system. The condition, which results in damage to the insulating covers of brain/spinal cord nerve cells, disrupts the normal conduction of electrical signals in the body. MS’s etiology is not entirely clear; however, genetics, country of residence and age are thought to be contributing factors. Multiple sclerosis treatment in Israel involves a combination of medicinal and physical therapy. As MS causes some degree of disability in the long term, one of the most important goals of treatment is preserving the patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living and their social activities.

Multiple Sclerosis Treatment in Israel

One of the most important aspects of treating MS is identifying the damaged portions of the CNS. At present, the most effective diagnostic tool that can do this is a brain MRI, which can provide a clear picture of the foci of inflammation. It can also be used to track the progression of the disease over time.

As mentioned above, multiple sclerosis treatment involves a combination of medicinal and physical therapy. Appropriate and regular treatment can attain remission, thus preserving the functional status and quality of patient’s life.

Treatment takes place at Assuta Hospital and Sheba’s Tel-HaShomer's Multiple Sclerosis Center.

Diagnosis

  • Initial consultation with a neurologist specializing in multiple sclerosis
  • Extensive blood workup (including CBC, CMP, lipid profile, electrolyte levels, and coagulation factors)
  • Brain MRI scan with contrast and demyelinating disease protocol
  • VEP & visual fields tests
  • Neuro-ophthalmologist exam
  • Optional: Urodynamic testing and neuro-urologist’s consultation
  • Final neurologist consultation, during which a treatment program will be determined for you.

Duration of basic program: 5 business days.

Please note that if you had been first diagnosed with MS for a long time ago, we advise you stay in Israel following the workup stage for physiotherapy, which will take place at Sheba Tel-HaShomer Hospital. We recommend undergoing at least 15 days of physical therapy (the center operates 5 days a week, from Sun to Thu).

The price of the program includes transfers (by our coordinators) from and to all your medical appointments throughout your entire stay in Israel, however long it may be.
